About Lidia

Some people say that if they had all the time in the world they would get bored.  No chance of that happening to me… I would take the world and make it my own!

I grew up in 10 different countries.  I have lost track of the number of nations I’ve visited – though I have every intent of getting a tally on them soon.   I learned to observe, absorb and assimilate myself into different cultures.  I became a chameleon, blending into the country I was in, so as to survive.

My heart is young.  My mind, even more so.  Chronologically… not that young any more.

I am an actor by profession (though casting associate, script doctor, and producer also fit).  A painter and a photographer by hobby.  And a traveler by heart and soul.  I am certainly passionate about all mentioned, but the traveling… well, it fulfills me in a way that is almost inexplicable.

I traveled all my life, but this incursion through Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong) is one of many “firsts” for me.   First time in the area, first time that I won’t be fluent in the native language of any of the countries I visit, first time that I decide to travel for over a month straight, first time when I effectively throw caution to the wind and do a lot of what my heart desires, and the first time -in almost a lifetime- that I am not the other half of one.

In other words, it is the first time I travel alone and, selfishly, that is one of the reasons I started this blog.  I wanted someone to share with.  Often we hear about the actual ‘visiting’ but I wanted you to hear and share with me all the emotions, setbacks, triumphs, time invested, frustration and anticipation that goes into the pre, the during, and the after of a trip.

May you find as much joy coming along with me through words and photos as I will find in this trip.

Having you as my virtual traveling companion makes it even more special!

It makes me happy to know you are here.  🙂

  1. Hello, Lidia the Explorer! Have a great time in your travels. There’s nothing more life affirming than appreciating the earth, not to mention mending a broken heart! I will live vicariously through you!

    Thanks for visiting my blog!

    • Thanks Mary-Ann!

Have an extraordinary time! Too bad you’re not coming through the UK — but ohhh…the places you will go. 🙂

  3. Awww, thank you Mark!

    • How delightful that you think it will.
Thank you for the good wishes.
It will be wonderful to have great virtual travel companions! Get your virtual luggage ready. We are leaving in 5 days. 🙂

  5. Lidi – thank you so much for commenting on my blog! Otherwise, how would I have found you? In reading just two posts, I feel very bonded. I’ve been a gypsy, but due to careers that demanded a great deal of time surrendering to itineraries and waiting in airports.

I know how incredible it feels to even imagine hearing my mother or father call me by name…just one more time!

I will enjoy this trip – this will be an interesting way to travel – through you! In fact, my mom used to say to me, “When you write, don’t just describe what you see. I want to know your feelings. That way, I’ll be with you.”

From what I read of your writing, I think you will do just that!

I promise my presence won’t be heavy, needy or late! 😀

    • Welcome to my journey souldipper -actually, welcome to our journey! Taking people along will make this trip extra special.
Your words are wonderful. Lovely to connect and I hope I can achieve transmitting the experience that Southeast Asia will be!

    • Barb, For some reason (and I take full responsibility since I am so technologically impaired) I did not see this until today.
So kind of you to tell your friend to look me up. Hope she enjoys it. Very glad that you are enjoying the photos. I love taking them as well as sharing them.
Saw your last blog on A Touch of Grace: Being Polite and wanted to stand up and cheer. 🙂

      • One of my friends commented that your photos are so “intimate”–what a very lovely and apt description. Thanks for stopping by–barb

  15. Hi Lidia. Missed reading you. Have PI completed your move? Settled in? Must be quite the gargantuan chore! But, it’s also exciting.

One of these days, I suggest you post about being an only child. I have an only child. And I am always concerned I was not able to give her a brother or sister.

    • Hi! Don’t concern yourself with that at all!
I did miss it at times but later on in life I considered myself extremely lucky and fortunate.
But your suggestion is fantastic. I may do so!
And thank you so much for missing reading me… that always warms my heart!

  16. Wow! A very impressive background – and an impressive future! I will be tagging along virtually. So glad you like my work; thanks for visiting and for commenting.

  18. An explorer – sounds like the most wonderful thing in the world to me! When I was asked, at school, what I wanted to be, that’s what I told them, but it was too baffling, it seems – how do you prepare a lady explorer? Luckily it hasn’t stopped me, one way or another … So glad you’ve found my blog – i’m a bit frantic just now, but will delve deeper into yours as the weeks go by. 🙂

Hey Lidia! Wow, it looks like you are having a blast. Wish I was loving my Love in the city of love. How lovely that would be. Keep exploring!

So happy that you are coming along with me!
      Besitos a la familia!

  20. 10 countries is impressive!

  21. Volunteering Abroad

Hey Lidia! I noticed you have been reading and liking most of what I am writing and I also like what you do with your page as well. I think we should do a feature article on each other to help each other out and also give our pages some extra variety? 🙂 I would be happy if you wanted to write a little blog about yourself so I can feature you because I would like my readers to learn from you! I have a criteria guideline for you if your interested. For more info or any questions you should go onto my page and there is a section called “feature your article”. If you fill that in so I have your email contact we can communicate through email in more detail 🙂 This isn’t a spam thing or anything I just thought It would be nice to share some stories 😉 Let me know what you think through that section on my page 🙂 peace

    • Absolutely! I will contact you and go where you are guiding me to. Have really connected with your writing and what you do so I certainly am willing to feature you as well. Will “talk” tomorrow though it will be quite late. Busy day ahead. 🙂

    Lidia,
You disappointed me,where are the pictutres from Krakow, Poland, you driving with me in old Mini Cooper in a classic car show?

    • Oh my! What a surprise! And how could I forget you? You, your Mini Cooper and the ride in the parade were one of the highlights of my trip! 🙂
I am going in chronological order though so am still in France on my blog. Then the Czech Republic and then Poland. AND you will be feature front and center!!!
So glad to hear from you!

  23. What a power packed site Lidia…amazing photographs, well chosen words and so much to read and discover…I humbly went through a few of ur posts…They’re beautiful, one can actually spend the day waving through them.

    • Debaroon, you have no idea how your comment warmed my heart. I love hearing that people are coming along with me in my travels and that are enjoying them as I have. 🙂

      • Yes they are absolutely..Keep up the great work, and since I crave being read too, I can gauge at least a flimsy idea of that warm touch….

        God Bless,
        Debaroon 🙂

  24. Your travels and adventures inspires me to follow my dreams of traveling. Life is short not to find our source of happiness. Best wishes.
